LESSER HAMPDEN BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE 2014 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
For the Commonwealth Games which were held in
Glasgow in 2014, Hampden Park was turned into the athletics arena for
the games, and Lesser Hampden was turned into a warm-up track for the
athletes. The links below show pictures of the various stages of the
transformation of Lesser Hampden over the course of the year.
Part 1 shows the demolition of the old Queen's Park offices and the ripping up of the artificial surface that had been laid in the summer of 2007. The demolition was started in November 2013. Part 2 shows the construction of the four lane running track (with six lanes in the home straight) and also the spectator seating. Part 3 shows a few pictures of Lesser during the games itself. Finally, Part 4, back to the football shows the relaying of the artificial surface in preparation for the return of 1st XI training, Strollers and youth matches to Lesser Hampden in late October 2014
